Say NO to dealing with Israel’s Occupation
June 4, 2007
The Coalition for Jerusalem welcomes the initiative of the
Palestinian People’s Party, the Israeli Communist Party and the
European United Left / Nordic Green Left (GUE/NGL) to convene a
conference in Jerusalem calling for an end to Israel’s
occupation and for a just and comprehensive peace. We view this
as particularly important as Palestinians are marking forty
years of Israel’s brutal occupation of its people and land. The
Coalition for Jerusalem views Israel’s policies of today a
continuation of the policies it embarked upon 40 years ago or
indeed 59 years ago. For the past 59 years Israel has not been
held accountable for the daily crimes it committed and continues
to commit against the Palestinians. The International Community
has failed to bring justice to Palestine and the Palestinian
people. Since 1947 numerous UN resolutions have passed to
resolve the conflict but none have been implemented. Not only
has the International Community, claiming to be the guardian of
international law and legitimacy, failed to implement its own
resolutions, but instead has found the moral justification and
grounds to boycott an occupied, dispossessed and oppressed
nation.
The result after all those years is a
fragmentation of a people and land unprecedented in this
century. As we are meeting today Israel continues unabated with
its policies. As we gather here Israel continues to kill,
imprison, torture, terrorize a whole nation. The construction of
Jewish only colonies continues, the monstrous Apartheid Wall
continues to swallow Palestinian land and to confine the
Palestinian population in isolated separated ghettos.
We urge this conference as civil society
organizations that believe in a peaceful resolution to the
Israeli – Arab conflict to hold Israel accountable for the
crimes that it committed and continues to commit against the
Palestinians by:
-
Calling for an immediate end to Israel’s occupation on the
basis of UN resolutions 191, 194, 242, 338.
-
Calling for punitive measures in the form of Boycott,
divestment and sanctions campaigns against the Israeli
Government and all its institutions and all Israeli
establishments that do not call for an end to occupations
based on UN resolutions 181, 194, 242, 338.
-
Actively working towards the establishment of an
independent, democratic and secular Palestinian State with
Jerusalem as its capital and for the return of Palestinian
refugees.
The Coalition for Jerusalem joins in the
growing global campaign that believes in the necessity to make
Israel feel the brunt of its occupation and racist policies.
Unless Israel pays a deer price for the crimes it commits, the
Israeli killing machine will continue to operate. It is up to us
ordinary people to stop this machine, as we did in South Africa.
May this be yet another mass solidarity movement that will:
Say NO to dealing with the Israel’s Occupation
