Program Definition

A series of interventions aimed to bring positive change in the field of water supply / demand management in the agricultural sector, as well as enhancing the protection of the environmental sector.

Program Philosophy

The program believes that water and environment are a determining element in the continuity and expansion of the agricultural area, and plays a key role in the profitability, sustainability and competitiveness in the short and long term.

Target Group

Individual farmers, village councils, schools students, cooperatives and water users' associations

Goals of the Program

  1. Develop the capacity of water users, in how to manage the water resources.
  2. Provide additional water to the agricultural sector will allow the development of productivity and increase profitability.
  3. Reduce the environmental impacts of water shortages and lack of experience in the wastewater treatment and reuse in addition to the impact of climate change.
  4. Rationalizing the use of chemical and introduce local alternatives.

  2. Protecting water sources from contamination and waste.
  3. Increasing the efficiency of conveying systems.
  4. The development of the productivity of groundwater wells.
  5. Developing of water facilities and storage capacities.
  6. Promoting the safe use of treated water.
  7. Using techniques of water rational.
  8. Domesticating techniques and the use of saline water.
  9. Use of automated information systems in irrigation.
  10. Developing drought-tolerance crops.
  11. Developing strategies for adaptation to the climate change.
  12. Maintaining biodiversity at environmental and agricultural level.
  13. Expanding the utilization of renewable energy.

Core Achievements

  1. Initiating Water Users Association to enhance water management.
  2. Availability of agricultural water for agricultural and rural areas through more than 7500 agricultural cisterns.
  3. Construction and rehabilitation of more than 250 km of water conveying lines in agricultural areas.
  4. Introducing water harvesting techniques through metallic reservoirs, which serves thousands of farmers today, adopted by many organizations, and contributed to the saving of 40% of the cost of water.
  5. Creation and restoration of more than 650 metallic and cement reservoirs.
  6. Construction of 470 individual treatment plants that serves hundreds of families, and 11 collective treatment plants that serves dozens of gatherings.
  7. Introducing of water desalination technology in the West Bank.
  8. The establishment of several environmental clubs at the school level to encourage environmentally friendly practices.
  9. The implementation of several environmental campaigns and reforestation of public areas.
